Manuelita Brown

Manuelita is a mainly self-taught San Diego artist specializing in bronze figurative and portrait sculptures commemorating great people and celebrating the significance of ordinary people. Her sculptures are intended to elicit an emotional response—she wants the viewers to relate to the humanity of her subjects and to recognize that they are part of the same human family. All too often today, a person subconsciously views another with suspicion or fear based on skin color, faith, gender, sexual orientation, or language that sometimes results in harm and even death. She says, “I creates sculptures intended to elicit compassion and a sense of common humanity–of identification with the “other.”
